Acting green means thinking about the effect of our actions on our environment and making chooses that are sustainable for our environment. We are all connected with resources we share and negative actions by one affect all of us. However, when we understand the interconnectedness we have with our environment and planet, we can begin to make smarter choices.
Would you like to join Luke and begin to act green? One of the simplest ways to act green is to Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse. When we practice these principles, we make choices that are friendly for our environment, ourselves and others.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO RECYCLE?
Recycling is the process of converting waste into new usable materials and objects. When we recycle, we reduce the need to consume Earth's natural resources through mining and forestry. Recycling helps ensure sustainable use of our limited resources.
There are many things that can be recycled: metal, plastic, glass, aluminum, and paper. It's important to be concious that the items we buy are materials that can be recycled and not just end up in a landfill. Contact your local recycling center to find out what can be recycled in your area.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO REDUCE?
Reduce means use less. Whether it be electricity, water, plastic packaging or the number of objects we buy for just one time use, there are many areas the 'Reduce' principles applies. This translates to less pollution and waste for our planet to absorb.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO REUSE?
Reuse means to repurpose items or use objects for more than one usage. The best examples of this is a reusable water bottle or reusable shopping bag. Buy purchasing these objects once and reusing it, we avoid unnecessary waste from plastic bottles or shopping bags.
